Baked Buffalo Drumsticks

16 May

Baked Buffalo WingsDon, my roommate’s live-in boyfriend, loves buffalo wings. He is also slightly health conscious, so he asked me to make him a healthier version.

I love cooking for Don because he always compliments my food, so obviously I said yes.

After some research, I pulled together a few recipes. The baked version does save some deep-fried calories, but considering wing sauce is a mixture of butter and hot sauce, you’re not doing your waist a huge favor.

With that said, if you’re going to eat buffalo wings, why not make them baked? Here’s the recipe I came up with.Buffalo Drumstick Ingredients

Baked Buffalo Drumsticks

Ingredients: (Serves 2)

  • 5 chicken drumsticks
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup hot sauce

Step 1: Mix together flour, salt and Cayenne pepper.

Dredge: Flour, Cayenne, salt

Step 2: Dredge drumsticks in flour. Place each drumstick on a cookie sheet and put in the refrigerator for at least an hour to let the flour coating set.

Step 3: Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees.

Step 4: In a large bowl, mix together melted butter and hot sauce. Dip drumsticks into hot sauce mixture. Place drumsticks on a greased cookie sheet.

Step 5: Bake drumsticks for about 35 minutes. Flipping halfway through cooking.

Step 6: Serve and enjoy!

Don loved the drumsticks. I thought they were good, but some of the spice baked off in the oven. I suggest adding more of the hot sauce mixture to the chicken once it’s cooked. It would give the chicken more of the wing quality.
